Meta, Microsoft and other tech giants working on their own metaverse platforms have agreed to try and make their digital worlds compatible with each other. They are all participants in the Metaverse Standards Forum – a newly formed group of companies who will work together to achieve ‘industry-wide cooperation’. However, Apple was conspicuously absent from the list of 36 participants that were announced yesterday. The company is reportedly due to announce its own mixed-reality headset in less than two years. Participants in the Metaverse Standards Forum will take part in projects adopting or testing the proposed metaverse standards, for example through hackathons.
